2019 Submissions are Closed

HBFF will take place September, 2019.  Selected films will be announced on August 1, 2019.

We’ll let you know when the submission period opens, and you’ll be able to submit your films and scripts through FilmFreeway.

What we’re looking for:

  • Any genre, any length, narrative or documentary.

  • Any budget, no budget.  We value story over production value.

  • We love finding authentic voices and we love great writing.

  • We’re committed to discovering and promoting the work of women and minority filmmakers, and filmmakers from other under-represented groups, such as the LGBT+ community, or indigenous filmmakers from all over the world.

  • Social-issue films are needed now more than ever.

  • Subversion is very cool.  We like challenging authority.

  • Local Huntington Beach and Orange County filmmakers are especially encouraged to submit.  We want to support you.

  • Student filmmakers, especially locals, are also encouraged to submit.  You’re the future and we want to see your work.

  • Films featuring stories about senior issues are encouraged to submit.

  • And finally, we’re in Huntington Beach, CA, also known as Surf City USA!  We love films about surfing, as well as films about the ocean and the environment.

Please share with anyone who might be interested in submitting to our festival.  And don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions.

We can’t wait to watch your films and read your scripts!
